JEE Main - PATTERN
Mode of Examination – JEE Main is a computer-based test (CBT) that is conducted online. However, for candidates who have opted for the paper-based test, the exam is conducted in offline mode.
Duration of Examination – The duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours.
Types of Questions – JEE Main consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value-Based Questions.
Sections – JEE Main consists of three sections – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Number of Questions – JEE Main consists of a total of 90 questions – 30 questions in each section.
Marking Scheme – Each correct answer in JEE Main is awarded 4 marks for MCQs, and 4 marks/2 marks for Numerical Value-Based Questions. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer for MCQs only.
Cut-Off Marks – The cut-off marks for JEE Main vary each year and depend on various factors like the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats.
Exam Frequency – JEE Main is conducted twice a year, in January and April.
Exam Pattern for B.Arch/B.Planning – For B.Arch/B.Planning, the JEE Main consists of three parts – Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test. Mathematics and Aptitude Test have multiple-choice questions, while Drawing Test is subjective.
JEE Advanced - PATTERN
Type of Exam – The JEE Advanced is a computer-based test.
Exam Duration – Each paper is 3 hours long.
Language – The question paper will be in English and Hindi.
Marking Scheme – Each paper carries 180 marks, making the total marks of the exam 360. There will be negative marking for incorrect answers, and the exact marking scheme is given below:
- For each incorrect answer to the MCQs, 1 or 2 marks will be deducted.
- There will be no negative marking for questions that are not attempted.
- For the Numerical Value Answer (NVA) questions, there will be no negative marking.
Sections – Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will have three sections – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Question Types – The questions will be of two types – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value Answer (NVA) questions. The NVA questions will not have options, and the candidates will have to enter the numerical answer using a virtual keypad.
Difficulty Level – The difficulty level of the questions will be higher than that of the JEE Main exam.
